Continuing Professional Development - Autogenic Training

January 31, 2020 Dave McCartney

Sarah attended a half-day introductory course in Autogenic Training (AT) hosted by the EMDR South West group at Buckfast Abbey Conference Centre on Friday 31st January 2020. The course presenter was Dr Ruth Sewell, PhD.

AT is an evidence based ‘mind-body’ therapy which has been shown to be effective when taught by a qualified AT practitioner (PGCAT). AT exercises are designed fo turn off the stressful ‘fight-flight’ mechanism in the body and turn on the restorative rhythms associated with profound relaxation. AT promotes self-generated self-regulation, a return to homeostasis which is balance in the autonomic and other body systems which also leads to improved mental and physical well-being.

Sarah intends to carry out full training in AT in the coming year.
